What you are about to read is for Inquisitorial eyes only, and contains the collected journals of one Nika Herwehe, previously an acolyte to Inquisitor Varan. Anyone without sufficient clearance will be subjected to mind-wiping or, if necessary, execution.
Day 7: It’s been about a week since it happened. I thought the Astartes were supposed to protect us, not harm us. Now my husband lies in a pool of blood and I’m locked away for Emperor-knows how long. How’d they even find out my secret? No one knew back home, not even my poor Cratos knew the truth. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I hope they kill me when we get to wherever they’re taking us. Better dead and with him, then alive and without…
Day 30: Black Ships? That’s what we’re on, Black Ships? I thought they were a myth. I spoke to one of my jailers today, and he explained everything. Those space marines, the Grey Knights… I guess I should be thankful they didn’t destroy the entire planet, but that doesn’t mean I trust them. Next time I talk with him, I’ll ask why he told me all this. Hopefully it’s not as bad as I’m expecting.
Day 31: That bastard! Varan, the “jailor”, is an Inquisitor, and he wants to recruit me for some damned mission he’s got planned. I’d rather die than serve him. Still, it doesn’t seem like I have much of a choice. He’s gonna make me do it whether I want to or not. Hopefully I don’t last too long.
Day 50: Finally reached Terra, got sanctioned. By the Emperor, my hand still hurts. Still, got this glove from some merchant. It’s not much, but at least it covers the scar. He’s got me on a shuttle to his personal cruiser, the Emperor’s Retribution.
Day 53: Well, I’ve reached the Retribution. Time to meet the team and see if I can talk one of them into offing me for suspected heresy.
